Today, I came across this tweet from Frank Turek: “What makes divorce more devastating than death for so many kids?”

As you can see, it wasn’t received very well online. So, I wanted to do something digging. Turns out, this isn’t an opinion at all. It’s backed by a LOT of data.
In Terman’s Longevity Study, children with divorced parents died five years younger than children of deceased parents. “parental divorce during childhood was the single strongest social predictor of early death”

Another study found that “parental divorce had a larger impact than parental death.”

The Amato and Anthony study in 2014 concluded that divorce had significant effects across the board compared to the effects of parental death.

We ought to pray against divorce often, and for people to truly come to know and find life in Christ. As Lloyd Jones rightly observed,
The greatest epochs in the history of this country, and of other countries, have always been the years that have followed a religious awakening, a revival of true religion.
The reflection of God’s love for His church in the marital life of husband and wife is incredibly strong. Let us draw near to His love as Christians, and let Him mold our hearts and lives to reflect His love well before our children.
