We are currently in the process of moving house. That, on top of a youth group project about Moses (more on this soon), has delayed my writing. This edition of On The Desk will be longer than usual as it covers more days than just the 17th.
“Today, I respond to some claims about the biblical account of creation from popular Christian apologist Frank Turek.”
I’ve found the work of Ken Ham largely very helpful. Over the years, I’ve also had my concerns about Turek, and have hesitated to point others to his work. Why? Ken Ham unpacks Frank’s view of creation and Genesis in this video. It’s well worth the time. I encourage you to think through it, and look up the passages referenced. It reminds me that one day, I hope to return to writing on Genesis.
Smartphone Free Childhood US – “Let’s Change The Norm”
Should you let your kid have a smartphone? No. Unconvinced? Watch this one minute ad.
Should Christians avoid Halloween? Peter Laws vs Michael Cummins
With Halloween coming up, this five minute conversation might help you think through whether you ought to go about in trickery and treating.
Jeremy Boreing drops this great quote at NatCon: “The call for a king or a tyrant is a call to surrender. Never surrender.”
Speaking of great quotes, how great is this one? “It’s going to all work out. You know why? It always does.”
Michael O’Fallon warns about UBI (Universal Basic Income): “What’s being built – by the Woke Left, the Woke Right, and the tech people who make money off both – is the machinery for perfect socialism, starting in a distributist wrapper so it doesn’t look so bad.”
Victor Davis Hanson: There’s a Method to Trump’s Madness
Because I mentioned the President, maybe it’s best to include this too. Hanson breaks down Trump’s… unusual but effective strategy, and explains how it works even when it rubs people the wrong way.
Ben Shapiro – Everything You Need to Know About James Talarico
It’s really hard to stay out of politics when all the worst politicians are invading the realm of theology. SO here’s a Jew to point out how not a Christian Talarico is, just to make the point.
Louder with Crowder – We Are Suing CNN, Jubilee and James Talarico
While we’re talking Talarico, Steven Crowder is suing! I think he should, too. Even if you think he shouldn’t, you ought to listen to how CNN glorifies the ingenuity of Leftists when it comes to having completely new formats for conversations. Then you should realize they just stole it. It reminds me of when Destiny went around of college campuses after Charlie Kirk was assassinated. It’s just… deceitful.
Ben Shaprio – Yes, Execute Terrorists on Camera. Here’s Why.
If this shocks you, please talk to me, and ask for an explanation. In this video, Ben Shaprio walks through the reasons for executing this mass shooter, and why he thinks the US government should broadcast it.
Ben Shaprio quotes George Washington in this segment. Here is the full quote, and link to it’s source:
It gives me very sincere pleasure to find that there is likely to be a coalition of the Whigs in your State (a few only excepted) and that the Assembly of it, are so well disposed to second your endeavors in bringing those murderers of our cause—the Monopolizers—forestallers—& Engrossers—to condign punishment. It is much to be lamented that each State, long ’ere this, has not hunted them down as the pests of Society, & the greatest enemies we have, to the happiness of America. I would to God that one of the most attrocious in each State was hung in Gibbets, up on a gallows five times as high as the one prepared by Haman—No punishment, in my opinion, is too great for the Man, who can build “his greatness upon his Country’s ruin.”

Since I’ve gone there, might as well go the whole way. Here’s what Barbara Kay had to write on the recent conversations around capital punishment:
Today there is nothing intrinsically wrong or sadistic in citizens watching the punishment the state has ordained on their behalf. After all, the reason we have executions is to stop revenge killings by individuals or clans and to allow the state to confer disinterested justice. The condemned man would not see a cheering mob in front of him to add to his mental suffering. Nobody would have been forced to watch. In a country where teenagers play video games saturated with gory violence and binge-watch hard-core porn, I doubt that seeing a quick round of gunfire and a man suddenly slumped over would have injured any modern citizen’s precious psyche.

You should take the time to watch at least some of this. “The material, archived for ~35 years, includes a 2-hour crackdown compilation and 90 minutes of secretly filmed raw rushes from the days after, showing military trucks on Beijing streets, crowds, and the aftermath.”
