Vows

Another family wedding happened this past Saturday! It was full of joy, affection, and happiness. And as I thought and felt, taking part in the wedding of two people so very close to me and my wife, it brought me back to the vows I made to her. Praise God that marriage is built on the One who loved us first and loves us without cost.

…my LORD’s beloved,

I promise to love you freely, as my wife

and, as God blesses us

I promise to love our family with you,

reflecting Christ in His love for the church.

I will faithfully love and pursue you;

lead you and watch over you.

I will keep you close to my heart and under my arm;

seeking to know you as the Lord knows you.

I will delight in you, pray for you, and hold you accountable,

so that we might both walk worthy of our calling.

I will wash you in the Word, and present Christ to you

who was crucified and resurrected

who has ascended, and is imminently returning to bring us home.

Mirroring His fierce and righteous jealousy for His Bride,

I will guard and protect us from anyone or anything

that threatens our unity in Christ and as one flesh.

Today, I give myself to you:

My body to please and protect you,

My mind to counsel you,

My heart in love to you,

My soul in union with you.

I promise to always be your loving husband.

  1. Beautiful words that I know come from the heart. Grateful for the many godly marriages in my extended family. May we all be a witness to those around us by the way we love our spouses, however long we have been married…
