Intentional, by Paul Williams

This book has two goals: to take you to Jesus and equip you to take others to Jesus. It is a must have for anyone doing the SBG Evangelism Course (coming soon). Paul Williams helps us think through our fears, our methods, our questions, our prayer lives, and the Gospel in this small book. This won’t sit on your bookshelf. This will practically live in your pocket (and it is small enough to do that)!

#2

Foundations, by Peter Mead

This book brings Christian theology into focus. Peter Mead asks the four big questions everyone needs to get straight: Which god is God? What is a Human? What is Sin? What is Salvation?

Foundations is a great companion piece to the SBG Evangelism Course (coming soon), and a simply rich overview of Christian theology.

3 2 1 Book, by Glen Scrivener

Glen Scrivener walks his readers through the Gospel message in three simple steps anyone can remember (see below). Then, he dives into some of the hardest questions Christians get asked, and how to answer them evangelistically.

THREE: God is a loving union of three.

Two: The world is shaped by two representatives.

One: You are one with Adam – be one with Jesus!

#4

Overflow, by Michael Reeves

In his classic, deep, understandable writing style, Michael Reeves brings the theology of his book Delighting in the Trinity into a missional focus. Reeves offers us the best fuel for evangelism: the reality of who our Triune God is! Or as he puts it, “How the Joy of the Trinity Inspires Our Mission.”

#5

Christianity Explored, by Rico Tice & Barry Cooper

This book is marvelous. On every page, Rico points to Christ, keeps our noses in Scripture, and wins his readers’ hearts over with compassion and conviction. He leaves no issue untouched, writing with tremendous with clarity on the hardest truths in the Gospel message. My only regret that it is hard to find a sensibly priced paperback copy; but it is still reasonably priced on Kindle.

#6

What is the Gospel? by Greg Gilbert

Greg Gilbert does a good job communicating the Gospel, incorporating lots of Scripture into this short book. Though he is not as Trinitarian as one would have hoped, he has clarified certain doctrines that the other books in this list, perhaps, left somewhat overlooked.

#7

How to Have Impossible Conversations, by Peter Boghossian & James Lindsay

This is the first book on this list written by two non-Christians (an atheist/agnostic and a homosexual). Yet, this book (and the two men themselves) have proven their worth and conviction. I tried in vain to find a Biblically faithful book that was specifically geared to evangelize those taken captive by Critical Theory (a method to “evangelize the woke,” one might say). There are great Christian books addressing Critical Theory from a Christain perspective (see this and this), but nothing evangelistic. If you want to have conversations with people impossible to talk to, buy this book, inject grace + Scripture as out sole and total authority, and go take impossible people to Jesus.

As a Christian counterbalance to this book, listen to this sermon by Alistair Begg.

#8

Honest Evangelism, by Rico Tice

Want to be encouraged, challenged, and taught about evangelism? Then this book is for you! Rico Tice works through the Text of Scripture to help the everyday Christian glorify God through doing evangelism better. This is a good one to read and pray through.

#9

Questioning Evangelism, by Randy Newman

Reading this book with help you develop your ability to have productive, evangelistic conversations. Randy Newman helps his readers develop a method of evangelism that makes good use of questions. He looks at how Jesus engaged with those He met in His earthly ministry, learning from His method how Christians should evangelize their family, friends, neighbors, and strangers. This is a great book to have and utilize.
