Daily Theology for the Workingman – January 1

If Christ had prioritized His own things, where would our salvation be? Christ was content to leave heaven, and to take our nature upon Him, to be Emmanuel, God with us, that we might be with God for ever in heaven. He was content, not only to leave heaven, but to be born in the womb of a virgin. He was content to stoop to the grave. He stooped as low as hell in love to us.

~ Richard Sibbes, Volume 1, p. 433

Working men, let us pray today that God would fix our hearts on Christ! May we see our Warrior Savior stooping to us.

He Himself is our strength for this New Year. Our strength in facing temptation, doubt, weakness, burdens, weariness, worry, responsibility, sin – He is the One powerfully working in us as we strive with all His strength by faith (Colossians 1:29).

Fix your mind here when you fix your hands to the plough today: Christ has stooped to you; you do not need to strive to up Him. You are seated with Him already (Colossians 3:1)! Seek His face.
