Protestia and Redeemed Zoomer – a Caution

I’ve had a few back and forths with Protestia. Largely I try and avoid the account, even though it does some good research and puts out some solid posts. However, it seems a good time to caution you about much of the work they do.

On December 29, 2025, Protestia uploaded a video, with the text “Revd Charlie Skrine of All Souls Church Langham Place flies around as Superman, passing out candy and gifts to congregants during their Christmas service. Notably, this is the same church that John Stott used to lead.” Protestia, and Pulpit and Pen, uploaded this on many other platforms as well.

The Redeemed Zoomer account then put out a message saying that Skrine should be fired – a post that was since deleted, but that I had responded to here. To my knowledge, no admission of error or apology or clarification has been given by the Redeemed Zoomer account – only deletion.

Today, Protestia have posted the following:

Update. A woman purporting to be the wife of the rector / superman (@ClaireSkri53002) has been sharing some more thoughts and context about the event. We’ve collated them and arranged them here, to give people more information to consider

Mrs S here. In the run up to Christmas All Souls did 17 bible based gospel preaching carol services that reached over 14,000 people, in person, through the doors. We have followup Christianity Explored courses ready to go in January. The tradition at All Souls since well before Charlie’s time has been for the Rectory to do something very silly on Christmas Day to support the bible based message he also delivers to an all.age service. This year was Matthew 1vs21, with two points, Jesus is like Superman, Jesus is better than Superman.

His points were based on Matt 1 vs 21: that Jesus is better than superman because he comes to save bad people. Our kids have a full programme from 0 to 18 to help them with bible teaching as they wrestle with these issues as they grow up. I personally think Santa is a Bit too confusing as that story is just so linked to Christmas. Different families in the congregation take different approaches to Santa according to conscience so unlike film and tv characters we tend to keep him out of it. It was a Christmas kids’ talk. We always do something silly at Christmas, having spent the previous few weeks in an intense round of high quality Carol Services attended by thousands. Charlie is always happy to play the fool to help children understand the gospel.

On Christmas day All Souls is essentially just church family who are near enough to church to get there without public transport. Christmas day silliness is our tradition, but always with a solid bible talk, and incredible worship.

Let me assure you the 17 services prior were bible based evangencarol services that reached over 14k people in the run up to Christmas. Silly Christmas day is an All Souls tradition, is still evangelistic, but it’s largely church family who attend as there’s no public transport. We tend to draw people in with our carol services the two weeks prior (see other replies to other replies), this is more of an in family silly tradition. There was still a solid bible based kids/all age talk attached to the shenanigans.

We ensure our churches health throughout the year with solid bible based sermons, bible study groups, bible evangelistic courses and one to one bible reading and pastoral care.

One video, one post, one source. Out of context, with no appreciation for what All Souls church is dealing with. Anglicanism is dying in the darkness of terrible theology, and, for the most part, All Souls has been a bulwark for good theology. It is incredibly unbiblical to attack All Souls as much as has been done on the basis of one video, post, and source. And to call for the firing of a pastor who cares for his people, puts them before himself, and preaches the Gospel? What! Zoomer indeed – very quick to speak, slow to show compassion and use just weights and measures.

I caution you against following these accounts closely. As I say, sometimes there are solid things from them, but on the basis of these types of posts, it’s safer and wiser to stay away.
